The Red River Delta Region
The Kingdom of Dai Viet, the ancient name of modern Vietnam, has existed for thousands of years. Over its history, it has undergone numerous dynasties, several invasions by the Chinese, and expanded from the Red River Delta Region of North Vietnam all the way down the coast to encompass all of modern Vietnam.
The history of the Red River Delta Region is filled with myths and legends that were established during the Golden Age of the Lê Dynasty in the 1400s. This is when the stories such as the legend of Thanh Giong, one of the Four Immortals, was codified.
The rice paddies of the region have long been a primary source of agriculture and trade, as well as a significant component of the region’s cultural developments, such as the unique art form of water puppetry.
